
The training we offer here at McHenry Martial Arts is very goal-oriented. We want our students to experience good instruction and walk away with the confidence of knowing that they received the training they deserve. After all, our students are our best asset. This is why quality in training is important to us.
Martial Arts Training and Hand to Hand Tactics, Combatives:
We are here to teach you how to defend and survive an attack. For adult classes we want you to be confident you can ward off or defend in an attack. We are not here to teach you how to stretch, do forms or compete for trophies. We want you to be safe, well educated and as skilled as possible so you can survive, or better yet avoid an attack. If you are a Police or Security Officer, we want you to be confident
that you can take down, control, and handcuff an assailant while causing
little or no injury to yourself or them.We offer seminars and 1 day classes specifically geared for this type of work.
Adult Classes: (ages 14 and older)
I will not kid you: expect to have contact. It is impossible for anyone to truly understand the implications of what they are learning without having the techniques done to themselves. We pride ourselves in creating scenarios and conditions as best we can without causing students injury, so that they can learn hands on and experience what it is like when the "Bad Guy" fights back. You cannot learn how to switch up your techniques and actions if the scenarios are always pre-determined. Be aware the Women's Self-Defense classes do not have as much contact as the others outlined above.They focus on fitness as well as learning essential skills to protect yourself from an attacker. The first half of class is a hard whole body and cardio workout. The last half of class focuses on practical self-defense that could save your life including, stand up and ground attacks, chokes, grabs, and weapons defenses.
